High temperature sealants
Synthetic fibre sheets
The first soft sealing product which can cope with high-temperatures and has exceptional chemical resistance.
As the name would suggest, these sealants are ideal for the replacement of existing sealing products and for new applications. These unique sealants are characterised by the versatility of use in high-temperature and high-pressure environments, their suitability for aggressive media, and in conditions where corrosion and oxidation are prevalent. In addition, Thermiculite is ideal for applications where hot steam is present.
A major supplier of these sealants and gaskets is Flexitallic. They have developed a soft sealing product called Thermiculite. Thermiculite can be applied in a diversity of ways:
- In sheet form, Thermiculite 715 is used for gasket rings which have a combination of vermiculite, aramid fibre and nitrile rubber.
- Maximum temperature range of 540 ⁰C
- Used widely in situations where high-chemical resistance is required and suitable for steam, acids and alkalis
- Available in thicknesses from 0.8 to 3.2 mm
- In sheet form with a metal core, Thermiculite 815 is used for vermiculite gasket rings with a stainless steel tanged core
- Maximum temperature range of 1050 ⁰C
- Maximum pressure 200 bar
- Can be applied in superheated high-pressure steam, gas and exhaust systems
- Fire safe in conformity with API 607
- Available in thicknesses of 1 to 3 mm
- As a spiral-wound sealant, Thermiculite 835, with a standard stainless steel 316L and Thermiculite as filler, this gasket is suitable in high-pressure, high-temperature and corrosive conditions
- Maximum temperature range of 980 ⁰C
- Suited to applications involving extremes of thermal or mechanical cycling, superheated steam, strong oxidising media at high temperatures
- Maximum pressure 150 bar
- Fire-safe in conformity with API 6FB
- Available in various styles, with or without an inner and/or outer ring
- As a Kammprofile gasket, Thermiculite 845, with a standard stainless steel 316L core and Thermiculite as facing
- Maximum temperature range of 1050 ⁰C
- Combines ideally the benefits of kammprofile sealing with a high-quality, oxidation-resistant core. Ideal for heat exchangers
- Maximum pressure 400 bar
- Available in thicknesses of 2 to 5 mm
- As a laminated sheet, Thermiculite 896 has an ultra-thin stainless steel core with vermiculite and steatite facing
- Maximum temperature range of 1000 ⁰C
- Ideally suited in environments where high gas densities are required
- High chemical resistance
- Maximum pressure 150 bar
- TA-Luft certified low emission sealant
- Available in a thickness of 1 mm
- As compression packing, Thermiculite 894 is ideally suited for use as a valve stem sealant with Inconel 600 wire and Thermiculite strip to produce a square-section sealing ring
- Maximum temperature range of 1050 ⁰C
- Suitable for high temperatures
- Offers excellent resistance to aggressive media
- pH range 0-14
- Available in the following thicknesses: 5, 6, 6.5, 8, 10, 12, 12.5, 15 and 19 mm
- Standard lengths of 8 m and 20 m for small thicknesses
Most gaskets are made available in compliance with various standards, such as ASME, ANSI, EN and DIN.
